About Us

The Green Briar Football Club was formed in January of 2011 as an amalgamation of  Kinvara Football Club and Briar Bhoys Football Club. Both teams had been plying their trade in Division 1 of the Massachusetts Stats Soccer League with moderate success in recent seasons. Both teams were also sponsored by the Green Briar Pub in Brighton. The amalgamation in 2011 made perfect sense.

In 1998, the Kinvara Pub's manager Robbie Donovan and a former employee, David "Shocks" O Shaughnessy founded the Kinvara Football Club playing out of Allston. The Kinvara Pub at the time was under the same parent company as the Green Briar Pub (The Briar Group Inc.). After enjoying many years in Division 2 of the MSSL the team finally won promotion to Division 1 in 2008. The same year saw the team move, making the Green Briar its base when the Kinvara Pub was sold. In 2009 Kinvara FC were successful in winning the Irish Emigrant Cup, beating the Irish Village in the final.

The Briar Bhoys have been playing out of the Green Briar since 2010, previously they played out of The Boyne Bar under the name Bhoys FC. In 2009 the Bhoys famously gained promotion to Division 1 with an injury time winner in their last game of the season. Needing a victory to secure their Division 1 berth, Gary Keane produced an exquisite free kick with the last kick of the game which found the top corner of the net, securing the win and leading to jubilant scenes as the final whistle blew.
