GBFC Record:
MSSL League and Cup Games Only
(excl. forfeits) ( _ = Cup)

2013:
W-W-L-L-W-L-L-L-W-W-W-W-W-L-L-L-L-L-W
2012: W-L-W-W-L-D-W-L-W-W-L-L-W-W-D-D-L
2011: L-D-W-L-L-W-L-D-L-L-L-W-W

In the two and a half seasons the Briar has been competing in the MSSL, a consistency in results has been the one thing that has been elusive. Looking back at the record books, and discounting non-MSSL competitions and any forfeit wins credited to our side, the results from the field of play look spotty at best.

Back in 2011, after a disappointing 1st round exit in the Cup at the hands of the then D2 side Celtic FC, the Briar results continued to be poor. On the run-in, three losses on the spin hurt bad, before the Briar ended the season well with a pair of wins against (it has to be said) depleted Suchi FC and Lowell United sides. Lowell in particular having one eye on the Cup final the following week.

The 2012 campaign was definitely an improvement. Winning more games than losing in the league, a run of four league games undefeated on the run-in and a step further in the Cup were tangeable areas of improvement from the team. Two draws and a loss from the last three games, however, extinguished the Briar's hopes of competing for the top spots in the league, when it looked like they had the capability to do so.

And so the 2013 rolled around. With four wins and five losses in the league including a dreadful three week spell with as many losses, the tale of the tape doesn't look that much better at first glance. But looking closer, the Briar may have turned a corner from the depths of that disappointing run of losses. A first round bye, coupled with a tremendous away victory in Lowell and a comfortable quarter final victory over Stoughton, sees the Briar entering the last four of the Cup competition. Sandwiched between those terrific Cup results was a gritty come from behind win against West Africans United.

The opening half of the season has ended brightly. The Cup semi-final is definitely the carrot at the end of the stick to spur the Briar on, but league form can only improve. It took the Briar two and a half years to record a three match winning streak......and guess what? The streak is still alive.
